Good, bad memories with K-Pink

Being stopped at the California border as he drove out for the Western swing this week, Elite Series angler Kevin Short had to recall the article he wrote the first time he made the trip for a B.A.S.S. tournament in 2007.

Kevin and Kerry both found some humor in the overzealous agent hollering out, "Got a Quagga alert here!"

Yeah, California is strong on keeping out invasive mussels, as well as any fruit flies or diseases that can damage its massive ag industry. Many commenters to Short's post this year just wished the state's Southern border was similarly tight.

There's also an agonizing memory that's being marked today, the one-year anniversary of a tornado that decimated the town of Mayflower and destroyed the Short's home. The loss of lives and damage is on the minds of  many in Little Rock.

Even though Kevin is out on the California Delta searching for a winning pattern, it's an incident that will always be with him.

To see how the Shorts have overcome that adversity, revisit Steve Wright's story, The Shorts show their strength, and to better grasp the incident, see Kevin Short's video, Tornado relief.
