Driver Billy LaVan and I made a quick move to check on Brett Hite, and we left Steve Bowman in the boat with Edwin Evers to photograph him up-close. When we got back Bowman told us Evers caught a 3- or 3 1/2-pounder. Had opened the livewell to consider a cull when the bass jumped out of his hand, slithered between Bowman's legs, and landed back in the water. Dang, you sure hate to lose fish that way.
