Faircloth battling multiple illnesses

There's no calling in sick for the GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by GoPro.

If there was, Todd Faircloth might just think about it.

The longtime pro from Jasper, Tex., is battling a case of double pink eye - and as if that wasn't bad enough, he's developed a head cold as we draw closer to Friday's opening round of competition on Lake Hartwell.

"One of my kids has pink eye, and I thought I was going to get away from home without getting it," said Faircloth, who was noticeably avoiding handshakes during Thursday's Classic media day. "But I came down with it the day before I left."

Faircloth said its kind of like having sand in his eyes, and he wakes every morning with his eyes crusted over. Still, he says the cold is having a worse effect on him.

In a strange way, he's hoping the ailments could be a blessing.

"I fished a tournament down in Florida when I was sick one time, and it actually made me slow down," he said. "Maybe that'll be good this week."
