I’m randomly interviewing anglers to get a perspective on the mental side of the game, as opposed to the frozen-rod guide side of the show. Arkansan Stephen Browning, whose personal motto is “grind it out,” has a secret weapon he’s using to stay warm and focused this week.
“I’m not going to say what that is, because it’s really something unique,” he said. “I don’t think anyone else has thought of it.”
Having attended 29 of these championships, I’ve heard my share of the above. Early on, claiming to have a “secret weapon” is part of the game. With Browning, my guess is something clothing related. He’s a master at cold weather deer hunting and thrives in the environment.
