Good moon risin’

Usually the weights go down to some degree over a four-day tournament. Not always. This may be one of those exceptions. Kevin VanDam alluded to it Thursday on the weigh-in stage when he said, "There's more fish moving up. It should get better and better all week long. I think Saturday and Sunday are really going to be something to see."

VanDam didn't mention the moon phase, but he might have had that in mind. Bass anglers – especially sight-fishermen in the month of March – pay particular attention to the moon phase. As Shaw Grigsby stated in a 2012 article on sight-fishing tips in Bassmaster magazine written by Louie Stout, "Follow the weather patterns closely. And by all means, start looking during full moon or new moon periods of early spring."

The March full moon is set up perfectly for some fireworks at Lake Seminole over the next three days: It is 98% visible today, 99% visible Saturday and the full moon will occur at 10:10 a.m. on Sunday.
