Break in the action

Things have slowed down considerably for Mark Davis. So slow that he took a break and sat down to clean his sunglasses, leaving his lure soaking on the bottom. At that moment, the line began moving off and Davis lurched for his rod, grabbed it and set the hook on a solid largemouth. After the fish performed a pretty tail dance on the surface, Davis swung it into the boat. It was big enough that he had to bring out a culling beam. If he ended up keeping that latest bass, it probably didn't boost his total much above 15 pounds. Maybe 16, Bowman believes.

The sun is out and improving Davis' ability to see under the water. Whether it will make the fish more active -- and maybe produce the 4- or 5-pounder that he needs -- remains to be seen
