Powroznik is having fun

Jacob Powroznik doesn’t mince any words when talking about how much he has enjoyed his first season on the Elite Series tour.

“It’s been a great ride,” he said in summing up the highlights during an interview Saturday.

Several Elite Series anglers competed on the FLW tour this season. But Powroznik fished only the Elite Series, after 10 years on the FLW tour. He qualified by finishing second in the Northern Opens point standings in 2013.

It’s no surprise that Powroznik is leading this tournament, according to BASSTrakk. He’s too competitive not to try,

“When we went out and played golf the other day, we were all betting,” Powroznik said. “It’s all about competition with us.”

He has little chance of improving on his 4th-place standing in the AOY points. That would be worth $35,000.

In mid-November, Powroznik turns his attention to duck hunting. He and a friend guide at Blandfield Plantation in Virginia, where there are 17 impoundments and an 800-acre marsh with 60 hunting blinds to brush-up every year. They limit the customers to six per day.

“Last season we hunted 120 people and killed over 1,000 ducks,” Powroznik said. “I’ve been doing it for six years now. It’s a pretty good deal. I earn a little spending money and get to do something I love.”
