A possible breakdown of the AOY standings

Here's a breakdown of how this AOY race can shake out. (Computed by a country boy so you might want to double check my numbers. #I'mNoKenDuke)

If Hackney moves up one spot (he is in 17th going into today) he wins AOY no matter what Faircloth does even if Faircloth finishes first here and collects 100 points.

If Faircloth finishes first here and Hackney drops one spot, Faircloth is your AOY. For that scenario, Faircloth will likely need 26-plus to move up to the first place spot, and that’s putting 3 anglers (Hite, Lester and Powroznik) who had 24 plus on Day 1 at catching 22-pounds or less today, which is a stretch. Anything less than 19-pounds could push Hackney down the leaderboard in the competition on Bays de Noc this week. The typical rule of thumb for cut days, double your Day 1 weight and subtract 2 pounds, doesn’t really apply here since the anglers’ spots have been resting for 3 days now. That’s more time than these fish have had off since the start of practice for this event. So to recap, Faircloth busts 26-plus, Hackney catches less than 19-pounds and Faircloth could sneak out of here with the 2014 Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year title.

If Hackney stays where he is (17th) and Faircloth moves into first place,  dare I mention it, tie will occur for AOY. In that case, a tie-breaker with decide the 2014 AOY:

Regular tiebreakers under 2014 Bassmaster Elite Series rules. Rule C19 – Year-end points/AOY tiebreakers will be broken by total weight from full field days.

Now for that scenario I’m not even sure who wins. But the computer knows. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that…..

A couple interesting notes:

Ott DeFoe had to leave this event after 3 days of cancelations. He was sandwiched between Faircloth and Hackney in the standings on Bays de Noc after Day 1. That's one point that Hackney will definitely gain on Faircloth and could be the deciding point in a very tight race.

The other interesting note, 3 rookies brought in the biggest bags on Day 1 on Bays de Noc. Brett Hite, Brandon Lester and Jacob Powroznik showing out here at the final event of the Elite season.
