Michael Simonton releasing 2-pounders with only three in the box

Although Michael Simonton has only three fish in his live-well, he has been tossing back 2-pounders. He is concerned that the smaller bass, caught from deep water, will die in his live-well.

BASS does not allow the culling of dead fish. Should a 2-pound bass die in his live-well, Simonton would have to weigh it in.

He sets the hook and battles a headstrong bass. The bass finally succumbs.

"It's 3 1/2 pounds or more," Simonton says. "That'll help."

The fish makes number four for Simonton. His biggest bass weighs nearly 4 pounds.
