If the season ended today, three Bassmaster Classic rookies would be qualified through the Elite Series: Chris Zaldain, Clifford Pirch and Dennis Tietje. They rank 8th, 16th and 31st, respectively, in the AOY standings. If three seems like a small number, it's really not. Each year only a few Classic rookies qualify through the Elites. It's definitely the toughest route to get to your first Classic. Most Classic first timers come through the B.A.S.S. Nation, the Opens, College or the Weekend Series. In the end, there will likely be 15 or 16 rookies in the 2014 Classic on Lake Guntersville. Just don't expect many of them to come from the Elite Series.
