Aaron Martens has insisted this week that he has only one goal in mind – winning the Bassmaster Elite Series Plano Championship Chase. Martens claims that he's not even thinking about the Toyota Angler of the Year race.
Martens is known for his stream-of-conscoiusness musings while on the weigh-in stage. Bassmaster Elite Series emcee Dave Mercer played on those while quizzing Martens Thursday, after he'd weighed-in 20 pounds, 14 ounces.
An abbreviated version went something like this:
Mercer: "So are you thinking about the AOY title?"
Martens: "No, The last time I won AOY, I didn't think about it. So that's what I'm going to do this time. I've probably gotten 12 hours sleep in the last three, four days. It's exciting. I ran a long way today and it was really rough. I guess I could win AOY. I'm going to ignore it. I'm not thinking about it. I'm trying to win this tournament. But (AOY) could happen."
There's obviously an AOY elephant in Aaron Marten's room this week.
