KVD grabs lead

With two 4-pound fish and a 6-pound kicker, Kevin VanDam has taken over the lead.

BASSTrakk has the four-time Classic winner with 18 pounds, 8 ounces, a full pound over Jason Christie and Mike Iaconelli, tied for second at 17-8.

Mark Zona, reporting on the War Room live feed, said KVD recently upgraded what it might take each day. He said to have a chance, he had to bring in at least 18 pounds each day.

So VanDam had a plan, and that most likely includes becoming the first to accumulate five Classic titles. KVD and Rick Clunn both have four. We'll see if he can do it.

There is stout competition atop the leaderboard, including Ike, another Classic champ. But while he started hot, Ike hasn’t upgraded since mid-morning.

Ike and Jonathan Carter have each caught 10 fish, with Ike totaling 26-8. His cull weight is 9-0, but Hank Cherry and Tracy Adams have each boated 11.

Cherry stands in sixth with 14-11 and Adams is two ounces back of him in seventh.
