He came into today's competition in 30th place. That doesn't sound that impressive, especially for the greatest bass angler of all-time, but it sets another Elite Series record. Kevin VanDam has now made the first cut (top 50) in 25 consecutive tournaments.
After Day 1, it didn't look like it was going to be easy. KVD was in 53rd place. But a solid charge on Day 2 moved him up 23 places and safely inside the first cut.
VanDam hasn't missed a first cut in more than three full years — since May of 2010 on Pickwick Lake when he was 57th.
The second longest string of top 50 finishes? It's 16 straight from 2008 to 2010 — also by VanDam! No one else comes close to his record for making cuts and earning checks. He makes the top 50 and gets a check nearly 95 percent of the time.
And what's the second longest active streak going into today? That belongs to Edwin Evers with nine straight.
