Fishing a crowd

Todd Faircloth helped his cause with a solid 3-plus-pounder that allowed him to cull a smaller bass. He worked on that fish for at least 20 minutes before enticing it to strike. Less wind and bright sun has made sight fishing possible today, and now Faircloth has pulled out a push pole and he's looking for more.

Keith Combs, who's also fishing in this area, was moving past Faircloth's boat just as he hooked the fish. It was a textbook example of how fishing in crowd can get inside an angler's head. Combs muttered a colorful word under his breath as he passed our boat, then said, "I could've used one like that."
