Where are the local sticks?

Bassmaster Elite Series pros rarely win an event on their home lake, but the scoreboard reveals an even farther distance from the top for the Alabama contingent.

It’s logical to think the likes of Gerald Swindle and Wes Logan would be strong contenders, but they are nowhere to be seen in the Top 20. The pre-fall transition, and rising water is part of the reason why. The water temperature is just outside that magic mid-60-degree mark that gets Guntersville’s bass moving, along with the bait.

The highest Alabamian on the scoreboard is Kyle Welcher, currently in 14th, according to BASSTrakk. Another surprise is Matt Herren, who just landed his first keeper of the day. His name is tightly connected to punching the heavy vegetation on Lake Guntersville.

You can’t count any of the Alabama gang out, as they are all highly skilled anglers capable of bouncing back when the going gets tough.
