When wind is not your friend

The above graphic depicts what is forecast by the National Weather Service office in Jackson, Miss. Sustained winds of 20 mph swept across Ross Barnett. Gusts were recorded up to 30 mph. That was yesterday.

This afternoon will be much different.

The pros recognize what’s ahead and have made adjustments to their strategies. Some, like Bobby Lane Jr., made tackle adjustments to accomodate for the wind.

Lane downsized from 65- to 50-pound test SpiderWire.

“The wind catches the bigger size diameter and makes it bow out,” he explained. “Yesterday that prevented me from seeing some strikes when flipping.”

What the wind means for everyone is a rough ride back to the weigh-in.

The ramp at Old Trace Park was rendered unusable by B.A.S.S. officials. Rightfully so, because the north-south facing ramp takes a direct hit from the gusty winds blowing from the South. As a result, the anglers launched from a ramp at the dam, will trailer and weigh in at Old Trace Park.
