Wheeler on the rise

Wheeler Lake is on its way to the magic 556 feet above sea level, which longtime observers say tends to trigger bass spawning activity more so than water temperature. If you look at the accompanying info from the TVA, the significant numbers are the slow rise that has taken place since 5 a.m., and the predicted midnight elevation of 556.02.

Also of note is the predicted data for Sunday. The lake should continue to rise a few more hundredths of a foot, but more importantly the outflow is expected to jump from the near-constant 10,000 cfs this week to 18,000 cfs. Now that’s still not a lot of current flowing through the lake, but it’s more than there has been, and every little bit helps fishing on the main river areas.
