Way to go, Brandon!

First of all, I want to congratulate Brandon Palaniuk on winning the Elite Series event there on Bull Shoals. He had the guts to fish deep when the rest of us fished shallow, and that was the difference.

But be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you. 1 Samuel 12, 24

That was my verse for the tournament last week. It reminds me of what my true mission in life is; to serve the Lord and to be grateful for the many blessings that are in my life.

First of all, I want to congratulate Brandon Palaniuk on winning the Elite Series event there on Bull Shoals. He had the guts to fish deep when the rest of us fished shallow, and that was the difference.

I also want to congratulate Brent Chapman, who has taken a commanding lead in the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year race by posting three Top 12 finishes Also, Randy Howell deserves congratulation, he’s hot on Chapman’s heels. Brent is taking advantage of his opportunities and he’s fishing really well.

This week, I’m taking a little R&R. I decided to take Jimmye Sue out to dinner and a movie, and that’s something we don’t do too often. We went to see The Three Stooges. I have many childhood memories as a child where my father and I would sit at the breakfast table and watch the Stooges. I’ve always been a Stooges fan. I was concerned that the movie wouldn’t be as good as the old shows, but this was pretty spot on. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time. I laughed so hard that I nearly quit breathing! I’m no movie critic, but if you’re a Stooges fan, you’ve got to go see that movie.

The rest of the week I’ll be doing a bit of reorganization in my boat. I won’t make any drastic changes, but I’ll be putting in some deeper diving crankbaits in along with football jigs, Carolina rigs and swimbaits. Douglas should be an open water event, so a lot of the shallow runners can go. Then we’ll leave on Friday, and get there Saturday afternoon.

After I come back from Douglas, I’ll be taking a trip to Falcon. In my opinion, the last part of April, all of May and the first part of June is the top time to fish Falcon for sheer numbers of good fish. It’s not the time to catch a 13- or 14-pounder, but there’s no better time to catch them up to 10 than then. I’m really looking forward to it!
