Pellets on the deck

It's not nearly as bad weather-wise, as predicted, but the snow is not melting when it hits the deck.

Baby, it's cold outside

"As I travel to Day 1 of the season opener of the Elite series events. Snow is falling! Which makes me question the outcome of today's event. Me being a first time marshal I am very excited to see what's in store for these pros over the next four days. Al
Unlike the unseasonably warm practice days this week, the Bassmaster Elite at Cherokee Lake has begun with typical early February weather for northern Tennessee: 34 degrees, cloudy, 8 mph winds from the northwest, gusting to 12 mph, resulting in a wind chill factor of 28 degrees. There's even some frozen precipitation in the air.

The forecast is for a high of 40 degrees today. Another warming trend begins Friday with a high of 56 predicted, then highs in the 60s over the weekend.

I guess the weather is fitting for a lake that's notorious for it's finicky fishing - great one day, puzzling the next.

Still launching on a cold morning

Bassmaster Marshal Tony Petras says that while he's in the water, he's watching the flurry of activity on the shore.

Here we go

Cold start to the 2017 Bassmaster season.

Bad weather starting Day 1

After a long night of heavy rain and thunderstorms another patch is headed in with a steady 11mph cold north wind blowing and 25mph gust. This lake is going to be angry and very dangerous at take off.

Marshal briefing is off and rolling

The Bassmaster Elite Series Marshal registration for Cherokee Lake is off and rolling. Marshals are getting briefed on rules to look out for and how they can contribute to the BASSTrakk and blogging this week. Chuck Harbin briefs the marshals on logistics while Gettys Brannon will show the crowd the important details so they can relay the best information possible from the water.

Registration underway

Marshals begin to flood the meeting site as registration is underway. Other than takeoff tomorrow, this signifies the start of the 2017 Elite Series season! Cherokee Lake should draw marshals from Tennessee, North Carolina, Kentucky and other nearby states.

Hite's first day

This is quite the opposite from what B.A.S.S. fans have seen over the past few decades. Today is angling legend and GEICO Bassmaster Classic winner Davy Hite's first day on the job with JM Production's Steve Bowman.
