If you saw our odds gallery for the GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by DICK'S Sporting Goods, you might have noticed that we have Jesse Wiggins listed in the longshot category.
It may be time to start rethinking that a little more seriously.
We considered moving him up the board when we first met to discuss the odds back in early January. He'd already won a tournament then, but he still had very limited experience with B.A.S.S. - only seven tournaments at that time.
Then we considered it even more when he won the first Southern Open of 2017 last month on Florida's Harris Chain of Lakes. That gave him the distinction of being the only angler fishing on Cherokee Lake this week who has qualified for both the 2017 and 2018 Classics.
Again, we still didn't move him up because the Opens just don't compare to the pressure and chaos an angler experiences during his first Classic.
But as of 12:30 p.m. ET today, BASSTrakk has Wiggins listed in eighth place in his very first Elite Series tournament - and there's talk that there could be a BASSTrakk glitch. He may have even more than the 14 pounds, 5 ounces he's currently getting credit for.
Momentum is a very real thing.
What do you think? Is it time to move him out of the longshot category?
