Schuch, Renz claim first B.A.S.S. Australia Nation Team win

Amazing conditions greeted us at the beautiful Lake Boondooma and some of the best bass anglers in the country descended on the South Burnett Region to claim the title and valuable Team of the Year points to help them qualify for the Championship later in the year.

In fine form, Braden Schuch and Jordan Renz claim their first Haswing Marine Australia and Bluefin Boats B.A.S.S. Australia Nation Team event by 770 grams and also claim the Atomic Big bass in the final team qualifier of the year.

With incredible conditions greeting the anglers, a lot of talk was about how hard the fishing could be because of the recent influx of rain that the area had received. Fishing in the main basin the pair caught a lot of quality bass and upgraded throughout the session, landing a massive 2.25kg Boondooma Brute in the process and taking home over well $1,000.00 in cash and prizes for the weekend.

The pair mentioned that one of keys was to get the Ecogear VT 65 in colour 307, hard up against the face of the steep rock walls and hop the lure down the face, and the particular tone in the VT really turned the bass on over the weekend. Using handcrafted IP841 ACM Rods matched with Daiwa Spin reels, they worked the lure through the schools lurking below and the hook-ups came hard and fast. Spooling Yamatoyo mainline in 8lb and 10lb Fluorocarbon leader they have instantly qualified for the teams championship scheduled later in the year in NSW and are pumped to be representing Queensland.

In second place was Team 2 Dams, One Destination consisting of Corey Goldie and Matthew Langford who have some incredible knowledge of the impoundment. The anglers also focused on the main basin and worked Mask Vibes down the rock walls and across the shallow points, mentioning to us after the tournament that they landed well over 60 bass for the session.

Keeping the lure close to the bottom, they used very small hops to enticed the hook ups and spayed the Ecogear Egimax catch scent on each lure to make the lure more presentable. Matthew used a Millerods Control Freak matched with a Shimano Stradic spooled up with Yamatoyo Sheller Braid and leader material in the 12 lb range.

Matthew and Corey both mentioned that there has been an absolute explosion of bait in the lake after the recent rains, and the fishing is improving on a daily basis. The team also took out the Team of the Year and will be representing Queensland in the Haswing Marine and Bluefin Boats B.A.S.S. Australia Nation Team Championship and would love to win the team trip to the U.S.A. scheduled in December.

Rounding out the top 3 was Danny Maclaren and Brett Turner who were fishing as Kings of ROY. These two great friends just love to fish together and have great knowledge of Boondooma as they both live close by in Kingaroy. The guys fished on Pelican Point as they found some quality bass on the pre-fish located there, and used Dan’s Tackle Blades in a local color named Red Dust.

The strong red in the lure really stood out in the deeply stained water, and Dan specifically puts colored feathers on his larger than normal stinger hooks that increase flash and the hook up rate.

Using Pfluger Patriarch 1-3kg rods matched with Vanish 6lb mainline and leader material, the anglers were really pleased to put some upgrades into the boat over the tournament and take out 3rd place against such a high quality field.

Another team that has qualified for the Team Championship, Danny and Brett are definitely one to watch if they travel down south to the championship, as they have both put in the hard yards over the past few years and fished on Glenbawn quite a few times.
