Palaniuk playing through the pain

Idaho superstar Brandon Palaniuk has a five-bass limit for the second day in a row — and while he does not yet have the giant bass he caught during Wednesday's 24-pound, 7-ounce performance, he's staying in contention despite the shoulder injury he suffered during practice.

Palaniuk didn't seem to know exactly what he had done to the shoulder. He just said he felt a sharp pain during a hookset.

"(Tuesday), right at the end of practice, I just set the hook funny on a fish, and it dropped me to my knees," he said. "It sent a sharp pain all the way around my shoulder blade into my neck."

He wore a heat pack taped to the problem area Wednesday and said he, "drove around most of the day one-handed."

It's his left shoulder that's bothering him, and he fishes with a baitcaster in his left hand. That means things could get interesting at any time.

According to BASSTrakk, he has five bass that weigh 14-10 today and is in third place unofficially with a two-day total of 39-1.
