Not one bite today

I’ll tell you what, anyone who thinks this sport of bass fishing can’t humble you had better think again because it can, and in a single day.

I’ll tell you what, anyone who thinks this sport of bass fishing can’t humble you had better think again because it can, and in a single day.

The details don’t really matter much. I could tell you that I threw everything I had in the boat at every spot I could think of, and made every adjustment known to man, but the only thing that would do is rehash the obvious — I didn’t catch anything today. I didn’t even get a bite, not one. Friday, February 22, 2013 humbled Chris Lane. I got the memo about bass fishing today.

But let me tell you that I’ll not go negative, or complain, or make excuses. I had a bad day. That’s nothing more than everyone else has from time to time at their job. Mine came at a bad time but hey, this is fishing. It happens sometimes.

I have a good life and I know it. In fact, experiences like this make me even more appreciative of what I have. My family loves me, and I love them. Our love for each other has nothing to do with catching, or not catching, bass. I’ve won a Bassmaster Classic and I have a good career going as a professional bass angler. All those things matter a lot more than one tough day on the water.

Another thing I’m thankful for is that Bobby caught them today. I don’t know right now exactly where he’ll end up but he’s in the running with two days to go. That means it’s doable. I’m his biggest fan. The better he does the more I like it.

Tomorrow will be a fresh start. There’s a 25 pound sack out there just waiting to be caught. I’m going to do my best to bring it to the scales tomorrow afternoon. And when I say fresh start I mean it. Let’s face the facts. When you don’t get a bite you don’t have much to build on. Tomorrow has to be fresh. I don’t have a choice.

If I can catch a big sack, that just might get me past the cut. At least I’d be fishing come Sunday. I’d really like to do that. But if that doesn’t happen, I’ll take what I’ve been given and be happy for it.

If I don’t make the cut, I’ll be at the LB3 booth on Sunday. It’s number 1013. We (the Lane family) have a line of clothing out now that we’re introducing at this Expo. We have hats, shirts, jerseys and jackets for sale. They’re designed by fishermen, for fishermen. You can buy some of the shirts and hats here at the show. If you’re a dealer we have a catalogue and ordering information available. We’d love to talk to you.

But even if you don’t want to buy anything stop by and visit. I’ll be glad to pose for a picture, sign an autograph or just talk a little bass fishing. I want to meet and greet every fan of bass fishing and B.A.S.S. that I possibly can.
