No grass for Gussy

Call Jeff Gustafson the oddball of the top anglers. Yesterday, he weighed the second heaviest weight of the day that hit the scales at 23-11. He’s also the only angler NOT fishing in the grass.

“My boat never went near the grass,” he admitted. “It’s all fishing offshore with finesse baits and crank baits.”

Gustafson is playing his strengths, which in Canada is fishing offshore where there are the same types of isolated rock that fish relate to in the summer.

He got off to a fast start, putting his first fish, a four pounder, in the boat at 6:52 a.m. He followed that up with another four pounder about 40 minutes later. The action has been steady ever since.
