Mullins with three

David Mullins, Elite pro and East Tennessee local is familiar with Douglas Lake, probably more so than most of the field. The only exception would probably be Ott DeFoe and Skylar Hamilton, but both of those anglers prefer to run up the river. Not Mullins though as he sticks to the lake when it comes to fishing the Opens.

He has three keepers in the box so far and had a fourth possible keeper jump off a few moments ago. He's been sticking to the main lake portion of Douglas thus far.

Last year when the Opens visited Douglas he took home the title. That broke his streak of 2nd place finishes at arguably his home lake. He took 2nd in the 2013 and 2014 Opens that visited Dandridge, TN. Patrick Bone won the title in 2013 over Mullins and Ott DeFoe did so in 2014. It lined up right and Mullins took a double-digit victory last year.

He didn't fish the other Southern Opens last year so his win didn't get him a Classic berth and if he were to win again it wouldn't send him to the big dance either because he wasn't at the first two Northern Opens. He's hoping to add another trophy to the mantle and some more change in his pocket this week.
