Mark Lodge, who started the day in 12th place, says he could be in the 12-pound range, but spots are “hard for [him] to judge, because spots aren’t prominent in Maine.” Lodge, has taken a whole different approach than most of the field he is fishing natural rock, deep banks, with a 5/16 shaky head and a green pumpkin trick worm.
“The rate of fall has really been key, I’ve thrown up tight to the shallows, and almost power fished it back to the boat,” described Lodge.
He may not know it, but according to BASSTrakk he is 2 ounces out of third place.
At the B.A.S.S. Nation Championship, third place is a win. The Top 3 anglers qualify for the Classic here in March.
Two ounces is a small margin of error, if he is under, this could be a comeback story.
