Kiss of death

Earlier I reported that Edwin Evers predicted he would load the boat off the point right in front of us. He didn't. All fishermen, including Evers, believe in jinxes. After making two fruitless passes, he said to us, "It was the kiss of death, me saying that, wasn't it?"

Evers has only caught one small keeper this morning, and he threw it back. He fully expected to catch quite a few bass in this backwater. Is it the cloud cover, or time of day that's slowing things down, or have the bass moved? Whichever, I have no doubt Evers will figure it out and get back in the hunt.
