Kennedy lands 4 1/2-lb. smallie

Steve Kennedy was on a “Bassmaster LIVE Mix” segment just before 8 a.m., when he felt a big thump on his 1-ounce spinnerbait and his day changed for the better. It took a while, fighting a big smallmouth bass in the strong current not far from Wilson Dam, but Kennedy landed it. On his digital scales, which weigh light, it was 4 pounds, 8 ounces. From experience, Kennedy knows it’s probably a 4-10 on accurate scales.

“This is why you come to Pickwick Lake,” said Kennedy, who started the day in 11th place after weighing 18-11 yesterday. “It’s fun to catch these smallmouth in this current because they are strong, and they are big.

“I needed that. That should be enough to get me fishing tomorrow and settle me down a bit.”
