Last year, as Hank Cherry prepared to weigh in at the 50th Academy Sports + Outdoors Bassmaster Classic presented by Huk, I asked him how his day went. For the first time that I had ever seen, his face lit up and he was absolutely full of joy. It was different. But after the fact, it made some sense.
So this year, I had to ask him if he felt like he did last year? So I came up to him as he waited backstage tonight and asked a very simple question, “Are you happy, Hank?”
His answer was, yes. And he said something interesting about today.
“It didn’t go how I planned, but sometimes plans changed.”
With that, it was off to the Classic stage. Hank had a smile on his face.
