After catching 20 pounds, 6 ounces to land in 12th place during Thursday’s opening round, Georgia angler Micah Frazier seems to have upgraded a little bit today — and that could put him in position for his first Championship Sunday appearance in two years.
In 2015, Frazier finished sixth at BASSfest on Kentucky Lake and 12th in the Elite Series regular-season opener on the Sabine River. But since then, he hasn’t made a Top 12 finish that allowed him to fish on Championship Sunday.
For the moment, BASSTrakk has him unofficially in ninth place with 38-5.
It would be a valuable finish for Frazier, who has finished 112th, 70th and 95th in the last three Elite Series events.
Despite those recent struggles, he has earned three checks this year and is currently just inside the cut for the GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods. But a Top 12 finish would give him some much-needed breathing room.
