Follow the leaders

Tyler Craig and Spencer Lambert of Louisiana-Monroe took command of the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series Central Tour presented by Bass Pro Shops on Toledo Bend with 20 pounds, 13 ounces on Day 1. They have a decent 1-8 lead, but on Toledo Bend that is very slim. They were the lone team to break the 20-pound mark, but with weights steadily falling their lead on 5th place is a solid 4 pounds.

I found them just before 9 a.m. CT and they had 1 fish for 2 1/2 pounds. Lambert caught a short fish just as I asked them for an update, but it wasn't a keeper. They switched spots and idled to their second area where Lambert hooked a solid fish out of timber, but it broke his line. They were obviously frustrated because they only got 5 bites on Thursday and with how stingy Toledo has been this week they can't take a limit for granted.

At 9:35 Craig got hung up in a tree and was popping his line and shaking his rod hoping to dislodge it, but he couldn't. He started to troll over to it and he felt a tick and a solid 4 1/2 pounder picked his bait off the tree and he set the hook. Fish number two is definitely the quality they are looking for and was a lucky break that most anglers need to pull off a possible win.
