Since I'm a backup blogger, I don't have to make 70 mph runs in this freezing weather, so I didn't. Leaving the takeoff site at Wind Creek State Park, I didn't even get on plane before spotting Fletcher Shryock fishing a nothing looking bank just outside the buoys. He was in 10th at that point of the day.
Rounding the corner, we saw a number of other Elite anglers, but none are very much in contention at this point. At about 7:30 there was a rush of boats leaving sloughs near the takeoff. Either they were waiting for the sun to warm the air for a fast ride to elsewhere, or they had just finished the first stop on today's milk run. Probably the latter.
