Feider’s wife, Dayton, coming to Cayuga

Seth Feider might have been 9th in the Day 1 standings at Cayuga Lake, but he was No. 1 on the confidence scale. And he’s felt that way about this tournament since he saw it on the 2019 schedule.

“If I ever thought I was going to win a tournament, looking at the schedule, it was this one,” Feider said Thursday after weighing 21 pounds, 10 ounces. “August, New York, largemouth – it’s going to be a flipping deal. Some guys are fishing deep, like rockpile stuff. I’m just going to stay in the grass.”

Feider has an advantage in the grass, which he explained yesterday, saying, “I did a lot of homework here. I pretty much mapped the whole lake in April, right after the ice came off. Everything that’s under the grass, I know where it is.

“I was fishing in crowds (Thursday) up on the north flat. They’re all fan-casting stuff. I can pull up right behind them and cast a jig and catch one.”

Feider’s confidence has only grown stronger since he got here for practice. He said he called his wife, Dayton, two hours into the first day of practice, and told her to buy a plane ticket so she could come watch him win this tournament.

“As long as BASSTrakk’s good (Friday) morning, she’s getting on a plane,” Feider said. “I think she leaves about noon.”

BASSTrakk looks good. Feider has two bass totaling 7 pounds, which has him in 7th place at 8 a.m.
