DeFoe’s snell trick

Ott DeFoe made a pivotal move that put him back into the lead. Actually two good moves.

After spending the morning on the spillway he moved downriver to a flat covered in matted grass. He’s working the spot with a soft plastic rig and it’s working. Shortly after arriving he caught a crucial 3-pounder that put him back into the lead.

DeFoe is increasing his odds of getting keepers into the boat using a Snell knot. Doing so creates a fulcrum of sorts that kicks the hook out on the set and makes it stick harder into the fish’s mouth.

DeFoe plans to finish his day back at the spillway, where yesterday he caught a largemouth weighing 6 pounds, 1 ounce, that could make a huge difference tomorrow when the final score is determined.
