Day 2: What to watch for

The high level list of what to watch for on Day 2.

Shad spawn: It’s happening now. Yesterday as I noted in the previous blog it was a key time for the anglers choosing to drop the trolling motor near the ramp and get baits in the water. Bass over 6 pounds got caught, including a key fish landed by Michael Iaconelli, and a quick limit by Edwin Evers. He’s already on the scoreboard again.

Upper lake: It takes over half an hour at full throttle to get above the FM 1375 bridge where the navigating gets tricky. That’s where the Cajun Baby, Cliff Crochet, will be carrying his frog to let it loose in the kind of water he’s so familar fishing in Louisiana.

Smoother water: There will be more running around for a couple reasons. The bite will change totally as the sun comes out and pushes fish tighter to cover.

Mid-day spawn: Watch out for Ish Monroe. Yesterday in the Media Center he was all smiles for a reason. Monroe is one of the most skilled shallow water, heavy duty tackle anglers on the tour. And even more so when bass are moving in to spawn. Sure, most of that has ended but whatever is to come will be in the target zone of Monroe.
