Former college angler in Top 10

Hank Weldon, the manager of all our college, high school and junior programs, does a great job of looking out for the guys who got their start on the B.A.S.S. youth circuit. He just pointed out that Dustin Connell, a former hammer for the University of Alabama fishing team, is now in ninth place on Cherokee Lake, according to BASSTrakk.

You may remember that Connell fished that star-studded College Classic Bracket in 2012 against eventual Elite Series pros Jordan and Matt Lee of Auburn University. All three anglers are fishing today on Cherokee, as Connell begins his rookie season on the Bassmaster Elite Series.

Anyone who thinks the B.A.S.S. youth programs can't vault you into a career as a pro angler just hasn't been paying attention.
