Clunn became a force through fall fishing

Rick Clunn won the 1976 Classic on Lake Guntersville in the fall.

Rick Clunn is leading Texas Fest at Lake Fork, and when the Elite season was first jumbled because of COVID-19 cancellations, he said he always enjoyed fall fishing.

“Fall is my favorite time of the year to fish,” he said for this article, which details how he’s had about a third of wins in autumn, starting with his first in 1976 at the Lake Guntersville Classic.

Clunn was at around 24 pounds before noon today after catching a 6-pound, 6-ounce bass along with a 5-9 and a couple 4-pound fish. He lost his lead momentarily, then jumped back up with an 8-9 at 1:08 p.m. for a 29-4 total.

Clunn’s history of winning his 15th and 16th B.A.S.S. titles the past four years on the St. Johns River is well-chronicled. Does he have another in him?

If he does, Clunn would extend his lead in Classic appearances to 33, and he’d have a chance to break his tie for the Classic lead with four titles.
