Closest thing to an Alabama rig?

It’s no secret that John Cox is catching his fish on Berkley MaxScent baits, primarily the Flat Worm, but also the Flatnose Minnow. And it’s no secret that MaxScent has become a go-to on smallmouth bass waters for many anglers, not just Elite Series pros.

“It’s got to be the closest thing I’ve seen to the Alabama rig,” said Cox, comparing it to the multi-lure umbrella rig that’s no longer legal on the major bass fishing circuits. Cox noted that he’d normally be switching lures as he moved from the various shallow and deep structure where he caught the 24-12 bag yesterday. But his pattern is now set – a drop shot rig hooked to a Berkley MaxScent bait.

“I hate to say it, but I think anything with MaxScent works,” Cox noted yesterday. “I’m getting a lot of bites too. And when I’m leaving it there longer, when I’d normally reel up, I’m getting big bites.”
