Classic regret for Howell

This morning after Edwin Evers caught most of his fish on the Elk River, Randy Howell rolled into the area. It was about 11:00. He fished around the same waters, respectfully staying away from Evers, then moved upstream toward Missouri.  Early in the afternoon Howell came back through and told us he’s fished the same area on Days 1 and 2 of the Classic. “I could see lots of big fish but I couldn’t get them to bite,” said the 2014 Classic winner. “It looks like I should have gotten here earlier in the day,” he added with a tinge of regret in his voice. He knows what it’s like to come from behind on Day 3 of the Classic.

When Championship Sunday began, Evers and Howell had about the same weight. But Evers made the decision to go up the Elk River early, and he had the area all to his lonesome self. It’s where he caught the potential Classic winning bag. And Randy Howell was left wondering what might have been.
