B.A.S.S. Nation spirit

This morning as I was prepping for the run across Anchor Bay to cover leader John Cox, I opened a hatch on Jerry Doucette’s boat to find a pair of old baby shoes.

I figured they were his grandchildren’s, so I asked – but I was wrong.

“Those are my daughters’ shoes,” the 78-year-old Doucette explained.

For context, his youngest daughter is 48 years old.

The Waterford, Mich., B.A.S.S. Nation member said he’s owned four boats since he started bass fishing more than 40 years ago, and those shoes have ridden along in each one.

“I’ve always had them,” Doucette said.
