Not only has Austin Felix caught four bass weighing a total of 10-4 in 30 minutes this morning to move into 3rd place on BASSTrakk, he’s also the new Rookie of the Year points leader, based on the Day 2 standings.
The 36-year-old angler from Eden Prairie, Minn., has some quiet confidence that seems to be building in this year’s stretch run. Felix has posted four top 25 finishes in the last five tournaments, and he’s well on his way to No. 5.
In the Rookie of the Year standings, adjusted with the Day 2 results, Felix has 520 points, followed by former leader Taku Ito and Kyle Welcher with 515. Ito has had a big lead in that race for several weeks, but it’s now narrowed to a four-man race. Buddy Gross is also close with 498 points.
