Casey Ashley begins Day 3 in third place here at Lake Oahe with 37-6 and just 1-10 behind leader Mark Daniels Jr.
At 7:15 he caught his first smallmouth of the day and it was a beauty. Ashley struggled to get his hand under the big bass when it dove under the boat.
A spectator asked Ashley if it was a 4 pounder. “More like a 5,” he said. It’s unusual for an Elite to estimate higher than a spectator.
Fred Roumbanis has big bass of the tournament so far, landing a 5-6 yesterday. It was his only keeper of Day 2.
