AOY shock and awe

Coming into this event we could not confirm or deny that Roy Hawk was indeed human. After notching a 2nd and 3rd place finish in his first two Elite Series events he was perched on top of the Toyota Angler of the Year race and looked primed to have the Rookie of the Year battle wrapped up by June, but after Day 1 on Kentucky Lake he started to look a little more mortal.

Hawk only brought four fish to the scales for 7-9 and found himself in 101st place. He also saw himself plummet from the top of the AOY race down to 19th, 58 points behind leader Cliff Pace. He can definitely get back into the race with a rebound on Day 2, but for the first time this year Hawk shed some blood and opened the door. He was still jovial on stage during weigh-in and is enjoying the process no matter the result.
