“Always fish a willow tree”

Greg Hackney is currently targeting a willow tree, with his Power Poles down. “Always fish a willow tree,” said my partner and photographer Steve Bowman. Why? “They generally grow close to the water and have a dense limb structure. Bass just seem to congregate and spawn under them. Kinda like a beaver dam, which general come with a ditch or two and some structure.”

Jim Burks, our boat driver and a local guide, added, “Over on Decatur Flats you’ll see willow trees and buck bushes along the bank. Bass will be under the willows.”
