Action is slow for Groh

I didn't have to go far from my mid lake launch ramp before I found one of the leaders, Chris Groh, who's in fifth at this point with 11-8. I haven't seen him catch anything, but he had a good flurry early. "It was happening early this morning, but it's not happening now," he complained.

The Spring Grove, I'll., rookie should feel good about his first day of competition in the Elite Series. His 11 1/2 pounds is a great start, and it's the envy of most of the field.

Groh is fishing bridge pilings and whatever rubble lies around them. Instead of scraping the concrete with his finesse baits, he's positioning his boat a long cast away and patiently working all around them. It seems to be working.
