Bassmaster Magazine Honored

Movies have the Oscars. Musicians have the Grammys. And magazines, in case you were wondering, have the Eddies.

Movies have the Oscars. Musicians have the Grammys. And magazines, in case you were wondering, have the Eddies.

These awards are oftentimes reserved for the New York crowd — titles like Esquire, Rolling Stone and Sports Illustrated. This year, however, your Bassmaster Magazine was nominated as a finalist for an Eddie award in the Consumer Sports category (circulation over 500,000). And after a blue ribbon panel of New York's best editors and designers voted on over 1,500 titles entered in this year's competition, your magazine won the Silver Award (ESPN the Magazine won Gold).

Folio, a magazine for magazine editors and publisher, hosts this competition each year in order to recognize the publications that are leading the way in their respective categories (there is not a separate category for outdoor publications). In the Consumer Sports category, titles ranging from Sports Illustrated to Golf to Field & Stream are pitted against each other in an effort to determine which magazine is best fulfilling its mission statement, its editorial promise to the person that pays for the subscription. (Sports Illustrated won this category last year.)

With this award, Bassmaster was recognized as the second best title in consumer sports for last year (take that, Sports Illustrated!). This is no small accomplishment for a magazine that casts outside mainstream sports, and would not have been possible without an avid readership and loyal magazine family, the BASS membership.
