The Edwin Evers Band from the Netherlands has been a major topic of conversation on Bassmaster LIVE today.
On Day 4 of the Kentucky Lake tournament in June, Steve Bowman and I were following Edwin Evers, just like today. Evers had the lead, but some other Elites were gaining on him, namely Kevin VanDam. He needed one big fish to close the door. And he got it, a 9-pounder at about 1:30 in the afternoon. Today is a very similar story. Evers is leading, but there's a murderers' row trying their hardest to top him. He's telling us he's now on some really big fish.
Mark Menendez didn’t make Saturday’s Top 12 cut to fish the final day of the Evan Williams Bourbon Bassmaster Elite at St. Lawrence River.

Kevin Ledoux has stayed in a big bay near the Johnstown Bridge the first three days of the tournament. Make that 3 1/2. But he thinks all the smallmouth that he and Bill Lowen caught there this week have finally taken a toll. Every day this week he's also mentioned this place he found "some giants" in practice, but hasn't felt the need to go to again. Today he felt the need, and he's on the move. This will considerably cut into his fishing time, as he said it's another 30 minutes up the St. Lawrence River from the Johnstown Bridge.
I'll never forget seeing that great headline in Bassmaster magazine several years ago, "The last secret bait of the pros." Who wouldn't read that story? I'd put the same headline on a story every year in the magazine, if I were calling the shots. (Be glad I'm not.) But the point here is that another "last secret bait of the pros" could describe the key part of Kevin Ledoux's arsenal this week.
