It's raining sideways

Jun 21, 2013

I'm on feature-writing duty today, so I'm not at the launch this morning. But I hear the weather at the launch is just like it is here at the Hampton Inn about five miles away. It's raining sideways. The cable is out. The lights have flickered. A quick look at the forecast shows that it's going to rain hard throughout the day. Wouldn't be surprised if this one is called a wash. But in the event that it's not, best wishes to the folks on the water. It's just plain nasty out there.

Severe storm watch until 10 am

Jun 21, 2013

Officially, the severe Thunderstorm watch continues until 10 o'clock this morning. There  have been reports of dime and quarter-size hail in some areas locally.  We have not seen that at Veterans Freedom Park, the tournament launch site.  However, we have seen plenty of wind. Of the four flags that spell B.A.S.S. atop the tournament trailer, only one remains, which happens to be the final S. The rain has slowed down a bit, but a giant bolt of lightning just ripped across the sky.

I'm still sitting in my car at the ramp waiting for the storm to let up. It shows no signs of doing so. We've got strong winds and driving rain.

A few of us hunkered down in this trailer. Just talked to Steve Wright. He can see our trailer from his vantage point and says we're down to one flag. Winds are really picking up.
