Wind is up on Lake George

Mar 22, 2014

We are just now getting to Chris Lane's fishing area. We've not seen him yet but we are looking.   The run across Lake George was anything but smooth. There's a 5- to 10-mph wind coming from the south. Doesn't sound like much, but on this lake that can be substantial if you are sight fishing.   And in this oval-shaped lake, there's not too many places to escape it.   I understand Lane isn't sight fishing, so this wind could play right into his hands.

Howell back in his spot

Mar 22, 2014

Randy Howell is back in the area where he's been all week, on the west bank of Lake George where he took the  Day 1 lead with 27-1 and  weighed another 20 pounds Friday. Photographer James Overstreet and I will be manning this area today.   With 58 less boats in the field today, it will be interesting to see how  many others show up. There's only one other boat here now, and it's nowhere near Howell.

The Early Bite

Mar 22, 2014

Look for things to happen early today in the third round of fishing. Several anglers I spoke with before launch this morning expect the best fishing to be during high tide. Mike McClelland of Bella Vista, Ark., sitting in 26th with 32-11, is fishing Crescent Lake with six or seven other semifinalists. He said he's sight fishing in 12-15 inches of water, and as the tide falls out, the bass get spooky.

Ott DeFoe's Marshal, John Hansen, snapped this photo of the Tennessee pro as he took off at 70 mph to start Day 3.
