Still shakin' that bush, boss

May 18, 2014

The headline is a "Cool Hand Luke" reference, if you didn't get it. And there are bushes shaking all around Greg Hackney as he flips his way up the left bank toward the spillway that marks the end of the line in Illinois Bayou.   He hasn't addd to the three fish he's got in the livewell. If somebody doesn't come and check their limblines pretty quick, James Overstreet and I are going to fill up the livewell on our boat. No bass, just cats.

Combs update

Combs is moving back and forth on two stretches of riprap. He is mixing it up between cranking and flipping. He says his two fish will weigh 4 pounds.

Shakin' the bush, Boss!

May 18, 2014

Greg Hackney just flipped his way past a low tree limb that definitely had a tree-shaker on it. Someone has got a fish - probably a catfish -- on a limb line, that was probably set last night.   "Are you not going to check it?" I asked Hackney.    "I'm want to; I want to bad," he said. "I always do in practice."   But Hackney is bass fishing for $100,000 today. He's got better things to do right now.

Hackney has three

May 18, 2014

Greg Hackney just caught his third keeper of the day, another one in the range of 2 pounds. Hackney has mentioned more than once how crazy the water temperature has been this week, especially for mid-May. He found a lot of 75-degree water early in the week, during practice.
